Komi

Komi language is spoken in Komi Republic and nearby areas. Komi language has three main variants: Komi-Zyrian, Komi-Permyak and Jazva Komi. The total of Komi speakers amounts to 125 000. Komi language has an official status in Komi Republic but nowadays it is mainly spoken in the countryside. Recently new projects like Fu-Lab and ART magazine have started promoting the language. A community of young generation City Komi that know their culture and language have grown in the capital city, Syktyvkar. We organised two comics workshops in Komi Republic in 2017: in the Komi Cultural Centre in Syktyvkar and in the library of the village of Bogorodsk.
